Our two wide beamed boats, Sheldrake II & Close Shave, have been specially designed by a team of ReachOut Plus members. Each is able to carry up to 12 passengers for day trips and provide up to 10 passenger beds for holidays (depending on the requirements of the group). They are both 10' 6" wide (beam) which provides a more flexible and open layout than would be possible in a conventional narrow boat. Both boats include many features that make them particularly suitable for the needs of people with disabilities and those with special needs such as wheelchair lifts, and a shower and toilet designed for easy accessibility.

Close Shave was built with a grant from the National Lottery Charities Board and launched in 1998.

Sheldrake II was launched in 1996 and is owned by The Neighbourly Charitable Trust being operated on their behalf by ReachOut Plus.

Your trip, your way

  • A day trip could take you to Boxmoor or possibly Winkwell to the north or southbound Kings Langley and Cassiobury Park.
  • A week's cruise northwards could take in the town of Leighton Buzzard and up as far as Milton Keynes. Southbound you can take in the attractions of Rickmansworth and Uxbridge and head as far as Regents Park in central London!
  • Whatever length your trip you will be able to enjoy the flora and fauna near and in the canal, as well as experiencing the necessary locks.
  • Your trip on one of our wide beam boats will be skippered by our well-trained and experienced crew and could, on a longer trip, take in the delights of the Marsworth flight of locks to the north or Little Venice to the south.
