A tailored programme

This important and exciting programme is not a one size fits all. We are concerned to ensure that the programme not only fits the group as a whole but as far as possible is person-centred and tailored to the individual. Our two programme leaders have a raft of experience and skills and are adept at supporting groups and individuals to good outcomes.

Funding

The generous support of a number of key funders has enabled this programme to be offered at extremely low cost to participants. We do ask for a modest contribution from schools and from families where that is possible but do not turn anyone away for financial reasons. Many of those most in need are least able to contribute and we want to ensure their access to the programme. We receive no statutory funding at present and it is only possible through voluntary donation.

We are seeking to further expand and develop the programme and are keen to broaden the profile of funding. If you can help – or know someone who can – please get in touch.

A culture of intimidation

Knife crime is a major problem in the inner city. One of the boys we spent time with told us that before even he was born his older brother had been stabbed and died.  His life was now different because of that tragedy. One teacher stated that most of their school children knew someone who had been stabbed, or who had stabbed another person; sadly many of school children have witnessed violent incidents. Many young people have shared that they are frightened by the situation they live with or go to school in. Others opt for a pose of bravado that they can handle it – and some even believe it.

Most of the young people we work with are very clear that this is not a road they want to take – or be taken down. We believe that young people need the support and help to write their own story and not have it written for them by the unhelpful pressure of others.

See our example programmes here.
